Regions Financial Corp. renewed its title sponsorship of the Regions Charity Classic, one of the largest charity events held in the Birmingham-Hoover metro area.

The Birmingham-based financial giant held a press conference Wednesday to annouce its renewed committment through 2011.

The Regions Charity Classic, a premier Champions Tour event that fields well-known PGA golfers 50 and older, has garnered nearly $10 million in donations for local nonprofit organizations since the tournament began 17 years ago.

The event ranked as the No. 1 event on the Champions Tour twice by Sports Illustrated in 2001 and 2004.

Regions Financial Corp. (NYSE:RF) is the largest Alabama-based banking system. Its subsidiary, Regions Bank operates 88 offices in the Birmingham-Hoover metro area, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
