A new brochure from Sandia National Laboratories says the facility's economic impact on New Mexico is about three times what it spends annually on purchases and salaries.

Sandia currently employs 9,414 regular and temporary employees, of which 8,248 work at the New Mexico site.

Last year, Sandia spent $1.016 billion on labor and non-contract related payments, $72.633 million on procurement card purchases, $62.575 million on the New Mexico corporate tax, and $1.014 billion on contract-related payments, according to the brochure.

"We decided to put out this brochure to let the public know how much Sandia contributes to the state's economy in both dollars and community efforts," said Don Devoti, manager of Sandia's Small Business Utilization Department. "And it's significant."
