Gas prices floor it through $4 barrier

The price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline officially broke the $4 barrier Thursday in Sacramento.

According to AAA's Daily Fuel Guage Report, Sacramento motorists are paying an average of $4.025 a gallon for unleaded gas, up 3 cents from Wednesday and up 17 cents from a month ago. A year ago, it was $3.375.

The runup is even higher for diesel users, who were paying, on average, $4.87 a gallon Thursday, 50 cents higher than they were a month ago and $1.75 per gallon more than a year ago.

Statewide, the average price for unleaded gasoline is $4.005. It's $4.895 for diesel.
