Gasoline prices: Modest increase after double-digit jump

Nearly 2 million people will take to the roads this weekend, paying the highest prices ever for a gallon of gasoline, according to AAA Texas.

A gallon of self-serve gas rose 5 cents this week to $3.73, while the national average jumped 6 cents to $3.83 a gallon.

After last week's double-digit increase, prices across the state this week have calmed down, with most cities seeing less than a 5-cent increase in prices.

Those buying gas in the Houston area will see an average of $3.70 a gallon, up almost 5 cents from last week. Prices in the Galveston-Texas City area rose 4 cents a gallon to $3.69.
