General Motors: Fairfax and Lansing strikes cost $200M

Union strikes at General Motors Corp.'s Fairfax Assembly Plant and Lansing Delta Township Plant will cost the company about $200 million combined before taxes in the second quarter, the company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

United Auto Workers Local 31 went on strike at the Fairfax plant in Kansas City, Kan., at 9 a.m. May 5 and settled the strike late Wednesday.

The Lansing, Mich., strike started April 17 and was settled May 16.

In the Thursday SEC filing, General Motors (NYSE: GM) said the UAW strike at American Axle, which ended Thursday, cost GM about $800 million before taxes in the first quarter and is expected to cost an additional $1.8 billion before taxes in the second quarter.
