Vicarious Visions developing Guitar Hero World Tour for Wii

Guitar Hero World Tour, the latest installment in the best-selling video game franchise, is being developed by Vicarious Visions Inc. for the Wii, Activision Inc. announced.

Menands, N.Y.-based Vicarious Visions, a subsidiary of Santa Monica's Activision (Nasdaq: ATVI), developed Guitar Hero III for the Wii as well.

The new game is also being developed for the Xbox 360 by Neversoft Entertainment, and PlayStation 2 by Budcat.

Activision said the new game combines the most advanced wireless instruments with new online and offline gameplay modes. The game will feature a redesigned guitar, an electronic drum kit and a microphone, as well as a music creator that allows players to compose, record, edit and share their own rock and roll anthems.

Guitar Hero World Tour introduces Battle of the Bands mode which allows eight players to join online and compete.
