Hawaii stocks down as home sales slip

Hawaii stocks were mostly down Thursday as the major indexes fell on poor existing home sales results.

In light trading, the local stocks that finished the day with losses were:

  • Central Pacific Financial Corp. (NYSE: CPF), down 8.7 percent to $11.01.
  • Alexander & Baldwin (Nasdaq: ALEX), down 6.3 percent to $43.74.
  • ML Macadamia Orchards (NYSE: NUT), down 2.6 percent to $3.70.
  • Bank of Hawaii (NYSE: BOH), down 3.8 percent at $46.98.
  • Hoku Scientific (Nasdaq: HOKU), down 4.5 percent to $5.25.
  • Hawaiian Holdings (Nasdaq: HA), parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, down 5.6 percent to $8.95.

Local stocks that ended the day with gains were:

  • Maui Land & Pineapple (NYSE: MLP), up 1.1 percent to $32.79.
  • Barnwell Industries (NYSE: BRN), up 2 percent to $10.20.
  • Hawaiian Electric Industries (NYSE: HE), up slightly to $24.60.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 283 points, the S&P 500 ended down 29 points and the Nasdaq Composite Index closed down 45 points.
