New Wal-Mart to open on Southside

The Avenues Walk Wal-Mart Super Center will open Wednesday.

About 400 employees were hired for the new store at 10251 Shops Lane. It features wider aisles and a new layout to make shopping easier as well as eco-friendly features like skylights and LED lights.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) will donate $25,000 opening day to Greenland Palms Elementary School, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and the Police Athletic League of Jacksonville.
