It's official: Oreck is moving corporate headquarters to Nashville

Oreck Corp. officially announced Thursday that it is moving its headquarters to Nashville.

The manufacturer of vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and other home products, had already brought many of its administrative functions to Nashville from its headquarters in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

The company has had about 65 people employed at its 565 Marriott Dr. facility, which will now be the company's headquarters.

The company also started a manufacturing facility in Cookeville, which employs about 500 people.

"Since the opening of manufacturing operations in 2006, Oreck has proven to be a strong corporate citizen of Tennessee," says Governor Phil Bredesen in a press release from the company. "I'm gratified by Oreck's continued investment in the people of Tennessee and I look forward to continuing this successful partnership."

"With Oreck manufacturing, R & D, and our call center in Cookeville, it makes good business sense and is more efficient and cost effective to have headquarters functions in nearby Nashville," Oreck Chairman Tom Oreck says in the release. "This central geographic location is especially important to manage, manufacture and supply our products directly to consumers and to over 450 Oreck Clean Home Centers coast to coast."
