Dow closes below 10,000; East Bay companies hit

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down nearly 370 points Monday, falling below the 10,000 mark it first crossed in 1999.

The Dow dropped by 800 points at one point before rebounding late in the day, closing below 10,000 for the first time in four years.

The S&P 500 was down 42.34 points, at 1,056.89. Nasdaq dropped 84.43 points, to end at 1,862.96.

Among the East Bay companies affected were:

??? The Coopers Cos. Inc. (NYSE: COO), Pleasanton, whose shares fell 7.99 percent to close at $32.15.

??? Copart Inc. (NASDAQ: CPRT), Fairfield, down 6.75 percent to $35.10.

??? Onyx Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ONXX), Emeryville, down 6.02 percent to $31.04.

??? Pacer International Inc. (NASDAQ: PACR), Concord, down 5.2 percent to $13.48.

??? Peet???s Coffee & Tea, Emeryville (NASDAQ: PEET), down 4.87 percent to $25.41.

??? Synnex Corp. (NYSE: SNX), Fremont, down 4.02 percent to $18.63.

??? Sybase Inc. (NYSE: SY), Dublin, down 4.38 percent to $27.50.
