FRED ROGERS
(1928-2003)
We have lost one of television's most beloved and familiar personalities with the death of Fred Rogers on February 27, 2003. He was known to millions of American children and adults from the program he created and, from 1968 to 2001, hosted--Mister Rogers' Neighborhood--the longest-running program in PBS history. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Rogers was a tireless advocate, both on-screen and off, for children and quality children's programming. He was Chiairman of Family Communications, Inc., and the recipient of many honorary degrees and awards, including four Emmy Awards and two Peabody Awards. Fred Rogers continues to touch the lives of future generations as PBS rebroadcasts episodes of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
