Instant802 Networks, a supplier of value-added 802.11 software
solutions to Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) and Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs), has unveiled it's full suite of WLAN
Residential Gateway and Enterprise Access Point solutions on the Intel
IXP4XX family of network processors. This gives manufacturers of Wi-Fi
equipment a new degree of flexibility for delivering advanced WLAN
features, rapidly allowing them to expand the price, performance, and
feature options of their product line while maintaining a common core
set of software across all of their products.
"Today's WLAN market is crowded with too many knock-offs
providing only basic functionality. We aim to change that," said
Greg Nuyens, CEO of Instant 802 Networks. "Our ODM and OEM
customers require advanced features and functions supported over a range
of hardware options to differentiate themselves in this crowded market.
They have found that one of the major benefits of working with a focused
independent software provider such as Instant802 is that it gives them
hardware and feature choices they might not have been able to create
themselves. This leads to rapid delivery of a wide range of products
while maintaining cost control and the ability to customize solutions.
In keeping with our goal of delivering market leading solutions,
supporting the Intel IXP technology and leveraging its tremendous
flexibility was a no-brainer for us, resulting in support for our Wi-Fi
solutions on a platform that is generating significant interest in the
ODM community."
Instant802 is presently shipping Linux-based software and hardware
reference implementations today, with end user products using this
technology scheduled to ship in 3Q 2003.
Instant802 has a complete residential gateway solution with the
latest security features, including Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), as
well as a wireless access point that supports multiple independent
networks and provides complete network security while allowing limited
"guest access" requiring no configuration.
Instant802 has a plug and play technology that enables automatic AP
clustering, WLAN management, and integrated user authentication for
password-based and policy-driven access control without an external
authentication server such as Radius. This allows small-to-medium sized
enterprises to build out wireless LANs without having to install special
wired switches or management applications and without requiring security
and wireless IT specialists. ODM's are implementing this technology
today to deliver highly competitive and differentiable products to their
customers.
Configuration and administration is automated across a network of
Self-Managed APs, eliminating the need for IT expertise. Self-Managed
APs in the same network discover one another and share information so
that all security, QoS, and roaming policies are implemented in a
consistent and unified manner. They also automatically coordinate on
power levels and frequency assignments to assure the best possible
system performance at all times.
The basis for all of Instant802's products is the Instant802
Orchestrator WLAN Solutions Platform, a modular, hardware-independent
deployment architecture that facilitates the development of solutions
packages and customization to meet the unique needs of each ODM and OEM
customer.
