Linux Networx has formed a partnership with MSC.Software Corp.
(NYSE:MNS), a leading global provider of virtual product development
(VPD) products including simulation software and services, to provide
manufacturers an integrated software and cluster computing system for
computer-aided engineering (CAE) and VPD.
The combined MSC.Software and Linux Networx system will help
organizations quickly visualize and test virtual product designs to
significantly improve concept development, testing, and production
activities. The testing and optimization of the joint solution was
performed at the Linux Networx Solutions Center, an education and
validation resource for customers and partners to explore the latest
cluster technology. The Evolocity(TM) cluster used at the Solutions
Center was recently ranked 266th on the Top 500 list
(http://www.top500.org).
Delivering complete and validated systems with leading independent
software vendors (ISVs), like MSC.Software, is a key Linux Networx
strategy. Under the terms of the agreement, Linux Networx will address
all systems-level design, testing, validation, delivery and support of
the cluster-computing hardware, while MSC.Software will address all
software applications, installation, optimization and support.
The current cluster systems offering encompasses a number of
MSC.Software applications including MSC.Nastran, MSC.Marc and MSC.Dytran
to ensure optimum performance on Linux Networx's Evolocity systems.
MSC.Software can also assist with installation and optimization of other
CAE applications including LS-Dyna for crash and high-speed interaction
analysis and FLUENT(R) for computational fluid dynamics.
"Though MSC.Software no longer sells systems and hardware
directly, we are committed to continuing our work in the
high-performance computing area by partnering with other vendors who can
provide a value-added solution like Linux Networx," said Rick
Murphy, senior vice president at MSC.Software. "This combined
solution from Linux Networx and MSC.Software is an excellent addition to
our high performance computing offering and we are confident that it
will increase the efficiency of our customers' product development
process."
Linux clustering is a method of linking multiple computers together
to form a unified and more powerful system. The Evolocity cluster, pre-
integrated with MSC.Software products, includes Linux Networx Evolocity
compute nodes, and Clusterworx(R) and ICE Box(TM) to simplify cluster
management.
"This partnership represents an important strategy at Linux
Networx to deliver cluster systems to customers that are ready-to-run
key applications as soon as they are delivered," said Dick
Linville, vice president of marketing and business development at Linux
Networx. "By combining proven Linux Networx cluster systems with
industry-leading CAE software, customers are able to hit the ground
running and deliver fast, accurate results."
