ENTERASYS INTEGRATES HIFN SECURITY PROCESSORS INTO XSR ROUTERS.

Networks Update • Feb 1, 2004 •

Enterasys Networks (NYSE:ETS), a provider of Business-Driven Networks for enterprise customers, has integrated Hifn security processors into its recently released XSR security routers for Regional Offices and Corporate Data Centers. The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 series Security Routers integrate virtual private networks, firewalls, quality of service, and a wide range of WAN interfaces into a single high-performance security router.

The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 Security Routers are designed specifically to meet the security and connectivity requirements of enterprise customers with multiple remote locations. Network Administrators will benefit from a single platform that solves their remote office networking and security challenges and reduces operational costs.

"Enterprise customers demand the integration of wire speed site-to-site and remote access VPNs into security routers," said Ben McLeod, director of security product marketing at Enterasys. "We selected Hifn's HIPP 7854 because it provided the feature set and high performance crucial for processor intensive IPsec VPN encryption and decryption."

"With their rich suite of IP routing features, broad range of WAN interfaces and VPN and firewalling security functions, the XSR Security Routers provide a powerful solution for remote offices of all sizes and types," said Tom Moore, vice president of marketing and sales at Hifn, Inc.

The HIPP 7854 used in the Enterasys XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 platforms performs header and trailer processing, compression, encryption, authentication, public key and random number generation. 500Mbps is achieved on full IPsec protocol processing using 3DES or AES and SHA. Effective data rates are higher when LZS or MPPC compression is used, with those engines running at up to 500 and 700Mbps. The HIPP 7854 processor can set up 300 IPsec Quick Mode connections per second, with support for up to 2,000-bit public keys natively.

The HIPP 7854 processor uses either a 32/64-bit, 66 MHz PCI bus or a high-speed streaming interface that is often used in subsystems using multiple 7854s or for connection to a network processor. The local memory interface is over a 32 or 64-bit SDRAM bus. A total of 512K simultaneous IPsec security associations are supported with no performance degradation. HIPP supported algorithms include 3DES, DES, AES and ARC4 encryption, SHA-1 and MD5 authentication, LZS and MPPC compression. Protocols supported include IPsec, SSL, TLS, PPP and PPTP.

The Hifn HIPP family is supported by a comprehensive set of software tools, including a Software Development Kit (SDK) and Hifn's Security Platform (HSP), a collection of hardware and software that provide a full security reference solution for manufacturers of IPsec and SSL networking products.
