Like many organizations today, Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR)
found itself evaluating ways in which it could further improve its
internal email protection capabilities. What the company uncovered in
its research was that current server spam filtering solutions did not
provide the level of sophistication required to keep up with the ongoing
adaptations of the spammers themselves. Also, from a virus perspective,
putting all their eggs in one detection basket was not a very attractive
option.
Extreme found that Virtela not only addressed these challenges, but
by employing protection outside of Extreme's firewalls, internal
servers and access bandwidth would not be burdened with undesirable and
potentially threatening data.
"Virtela's Managed Mail Defense service has allowed our
employees to focus on their daily jobs by eliminating the distractions
of undesirable emails and virus concerns," said Carlos Sanchez,
director Global Network Services, Extreme Networks. "Additionally,
as a fully managed service it was a logical choice in that it lifted the
growing burden of email protection from our own IT staff. In the first
month alone close to 2,000 inbound email virus instances were detected
and stripped prior to reaching our internal network."
About Virtela Managed Mail Defense Service
Virtela's Managed Mail Defense service provides spam and
content filtering and antivirus protection via a geographically
redundant infrastructure for the highest availability. Virtela uses
filtering techniques to monitor both incoming and outgoing e mail,
taking certain actions when mail meets predefined criteria. Filtered
email can be allowed to pass through to its intended recipients, or it
may be quarantined, rejected, or rerouted depending on the criteria it
meets
End users can access their quarantined email through periodic email
notifications or by logging directly into a web portal. From either, end
users can view their spam lists and accept, deny, or delete tagged
email, as well as manage their own internal list of allowable email
addresses.
Virtela Managed Mail Defense offers multiple options combining spam
and content filtering, email threat blocking, and up to two antivirus
packages. The service is priced on a per user basis per month.
