The Shannon. This is the best--and only--authentic Irish pub in Nicaragua. If you get sick of the national beers Victoria and Tona, slip inside this dimly lit pub and sip on a Guinness or Murphy's while enjoying a corn beef and cabbage. Owner Michael Damery is from Cork, Ireland and when you are in his bar you will forget Managua is outside. That is, until live music night on Saturdays when bands play Andean music or Spanish rock. Granada. A colonial gem dating back to 1524, Granada has been restored as a great tourist attraction, alter being neglected and ravaged by war for decades. The historical quarter of the city--only 6 square blocks--is home to a quaint park, 16th century architecture and horse-and-buggy rides, as well as pleasant cafes and restaurants. Granada, just 45 minutes southeast of Managua, is a "don't miss." As the old saying goes: "Nothing in the world could be sadder than to be blind and live in Granada."
