Former Nicaraguan President Arnoldo Aleman was sentenced to 20 years in prison after a federal judge in Nicaragua found him guilty of fraud, misappropriation of approximately US$100 million in public funds, embezzlement, criminal association and electoral violations endangering the state. Aleman was also fined $10 million and stripped of his right to serve in Congress. The former president is expected to serve his sentence in a Chilean prison.
