Economic freedom waned in the past year for 10 nations of 18 Latin America countries studied by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, and The Wall Street Journal. Although their research paints a predominantly grim picture of the region Venezuela slipped in the ranking, scoring slightly better than Iran--there was some good news. Chile's economy formally became "free." Still, eight Latin American economies were "mostly unfree" and two were "repressed."
