MPATHIX INTRODUCES SUPPORT FOR SIP PROTOCOL.

In response to the growing demand for IP-based services, Mpathix Inc. Toronto, Ont., has introduced Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) support for its MX voicemail platform. SIP enables carriers to make the switch to VoIP, which promises to lower operational costs and deliver a host of next-generation services that integrate data and voice. Added support for the protocol enables Mpathix to tap in to this emerging market and further provide customers with a "future-proof" solution.

Unlike competitive systems, the Mpathix platform's open architecture approach allows the simultaneous application of SS7 and SIP protocols on the same server. With the Mpathix solution, carriers can leverage current circuit-switched assets while moving towards IP-based services.

For traditional wireline carriers facing increasing competition, evolving customer needs, and increasing costs, the transition is particularly important.

"We're always looking at new technologies, such as VoIP, and evaluating the benefits they can deliver for our subscribers," said Jeff Kuenne, chief technology officer at Birch Telecom. "In our extremely competitive environment, we expect our vendors to move quickly with enhancements that can help us reduce costs and improve our value proposition. With its introduction of SIP support, Mpathix has delivered."

Another advantage of the Mpathix system lies in its ability to maintain the network reliability that carriers and subscribers demand from core applications such as voicemail.

"Mpathix continues to use SunT servers because they deliver the same processing power and high availability as proprietary systems. Unlike pure VoIP players, our platform delivers 99.999% reliability even while migrating to next generation technologies," said Branko Zatezalo, chief technology officer at Mpathix.

Mpathix first demonstrated SIP inter-working in 2002.
