Lucent Technologies (NYSE:LU) has been selected by Nextel Peru, a
leading provider of fully integrated wireless communications services in
Peru, to provide managed services for Nextel's multi-vendor
network.
Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will provide first and second level
maintenance and support services for Nextel Peru's 300 cell sites,
including base stations, power, towers, RF antennas, and AC, located in
a 1,000 kilometers extension along the coast of Peru, including Lima.
Nextel Peru expects this agreement will allow them to increase
efficiencies in the management of their network, reduce operating
expenses and focus on their core business of customer services and
strategic growth.
Nextel Peru joins some 30 other service providers around the world
who are leveraging the expertise of Lucent Worldwide Services in
managing complex communications systems to ensure the quality and
reliability of their networks. Lucent has signed more than a half dozen
contracts with service providers in the CALA region over the last few
years.
"Lucent comprehensive technical support and field maintenance
expertise will enable Nextel Peru to reduce business risks and downtime,
allowing them to focus on their customers," said Manuel Mijares,

providing customers with multi-vendor services to improve network
operations, network performance, and network reliability."
