AT&T. Bedminster, N.J., has increased its global Wireless
Fidelity (WiFi) and Wired Ethernet remote access footprint to more than
10,000 sites in more than 35 countries.
AT&T's hotspots in the U.S. include key business venues
such as major hotels, convention centers, brand-name bookstores and
cafes, as well as more than 70 airports. AT&T's total number of
locations now comprises 9,094 WiFi hotspots -- 5,770 in the United
States and 3,324 in the rest of the world -- plus an existing global
footprint of 1,551 Wired Ethernet locations.
"Expanding AT&T's global access capabilities gives
enterprise customers the flexibility they need to extend their mobile
work environment," said Bill Hannigan, president and chief
operating officer for AT&T. "With the integration of this
capability into our IP VPN service, AT&T provides a seamless
solution. Our flexible billing options and improved remote access client
combine to enhance our market-leading solution."
Access to many of the new WiFi and Wired Ethernet locations is made
possible under an expansion of AT&T's existing agreement with
GoRemote Internet Communications, Inc., a leading provider of secure
remote access locations, as well as through direct relationships with
other hotspot providers. Certification of the additional access points
is complete.
AT&T has integrated the new locations into its world-class
mobile client to ensure service availability, as well as
interoperability with AT&T's managed virtual private network
client, personal firewalls and policy management capabilities.
AT&T is raising the standard for global virtual private
networks (VPNs) by offering businesses a "customer-defined"
solution. According to In-Stat, AT&T has the leading market share in
the United States for IP VPN services, more than double that of its next
nearest competitor.
The company's VPN service features embedded capabilities that
provide security, efficiency, control and flexibility, allowing
enterprises to create a networking environment that will efficiently
adapt itself to changing business requirements, new operations and
applications, and support the people that depend on them.
As part of AT&T's effort to provide its end users with
added flexibility, AT&T customers are now eligible to receive a
single consolidated corporate bill and may choose from among a variety
of new usage plans that address customers' usage needs from the
occasional traveler to the road warrior.
Usage-based WiFi hourly plans with a daily cap of four hours and
session- based WiFi plans also are now available to customers. The new
usage-based plan can minimize the cost of access for enterprises with
end users who frequently visit WiFi hotspots around the world.
To address billing flexibility, AT&T has introduced the ability
to purchase competitively priced bundled monthly plans, which can
include a mix of dial-up hours, WiFi sessions and Wired Ethernet access
days per user ID. Unlimited WiFi and Wired Ethernet plans also are
available.
In conjunction with these new flexible features and options,
AT&T also has launched a new version of the AT&T Global Network
Client featuring a new traveling user window that gives users the
ability to search for access points by intra-state phone numbers.
AT&T's network client provides enterprise customers with an
easy-to-use interface to access their private network or the Internet
using dial-up, ISDN, WiFi, Wired Ethernet and cellular connections
throughout the world. The simple installation and setup procedures
provide quick access to AT&T's network.
