Levi's to pay US$45 million.
A Mexican federal court has ordered jeans maker Levi Strauss &
Co. to pay US$45 million to a former contractor wrongly targeted in a
police raid to crack down on clothing counterfeiters, The Associated
Press reported.
The judgement vindicates Mexico City contractor Comexna, which sued
Levi's after Mexican police raided Comexna premises in 2001 looking
for evidence of fake Levi's brands, based on information provided
by a company attorney.
Levi's is appealing the ruling because it believes the damages
are excessive, company spokesman Jeff Beckman said. He declined to
elaborate.
