Publisher: At the Washington Examiner, Herb Moloney III has been
named publisher; most recently he was chief operating officer of Vertis
North America. A longtime advertising executive, Moloney was retail ad
manager at the Miami Herald, sales manager for WPRI-TV in Providence,
R.I., and senior vice president of advertising for Philadelphia
Newspapers Inc. (Inquirer and Daily News). Moloney has also served on
the board of directors of Lee Enterprises Inc. of Davenport, Iowa,
since 2001. ...
Executive suite: At Tribune Interactive and Classified, a division
of Chicago"s Tribune Co., Bill Razzino has been named vice
president for finance; previously he was the division"s
controller. Earlier in his career, Razzino was vice president and
finance director at Leo Burnett USA Inc. and before that was vice
president and controller at CoolSavings.com. He started his career with
PriceWaterhouse, where he rose to become an audit manager. ... At the
Scripps Howard Foundation of Cincinnati, Patty Cottingham has been
named vice president for administration, a new position; previously she
was executive director. Cottingham joined Scripps in 1973 at the
Cincinnati Post and moved to the foundation in 1996. Also named in a
newly created job was Susan Porter, who has been named vice president
for programs; previously she was editor of Scripps Howard News, the
employee magazine of The E.W. Scripps Co., a job she"s held since
1980. Earlier she was a reporter and editor at the Post and began her
career as a reporter at The Crescent-News in Defiance, Ohio. ...
Two Times two: At the Los Angeles Times Jack Klunder has been named
senior vice president for circulation; previously he held a similar
title at the Los Angeles Newspaper Group (Los Angeles Daily News, Long
Beach Press-Telegram, Pasadena Star-News, et al.). Klunder started at
the Times as a single copy driver and inserter in 1976 and through 1988
held a variety of circulation jobs at the paper. Between 1988 and 1996,
Klunder was director of circulation at the Times. ... At the New York
Times, Mark Herlyn has been named vice president of advertising;
previously he was advertising group director. A 19-year veteran of the
Times Co., Herlyn started with the company at Golf Digest Information
Systems and later went on to become an associate publisher. In 1998 he
joined the Times itself. Earlier he was a producer of This Week in
Baseball and an English teacher and soccer coach. ...
Editors: At the Register Citizen in Torrington, Conn., Mary Dempsey
has been named editor; previously she was the paper"s city editor.
Earlier in her career, Dempsey was editor of The Independent, a weekly
in Monmouth County, N.J. ...At the Washington Post, Deborah Howell has
been named ombudsman; previously she was editor and Washington bureau
chief of the Newhouse News Service. Earlier, Howell was the senior vice
president and editor of Minnesota"s St. Paul Pioneer Press and
assistant managing editor for news at the Minneapolis Star. ... At the
Berkshire Eagle in Pittsfield, Mass., Tim Farkas has been named editor;
previously he was executive sports editor of New York"s Albany
Times Union, a job he"d held since 1999. Farkas has worked as a
sports writer and copy editor at papers in Macon, Ga., Santa Ana.,
Calif., San Jose, Seattle and Raliegh, N.C. ... Also in Massachusetts,
at the Salem News, David Joyner has been named managing editor;
previously he was editor the Gloucester Daily Times, also in
Massachusetts (both are Eagle-Tribune Co. papers). In Gloucester for
six years, Joyner worked as a reporter and became editor last year.
Earlier he was a reporter at papers in Raliegh, N.C., Montgomery, Ala.,
and Jonesboro, Ga. Taking Joyner"s place in the Daily Times will
be David Olsen, who previously had been the paper"s city editor, a
job he"d held for the last year. Olsen began in journalism as an
intern at the Times but has also worked at the Salem News and the
Times-Herald Record of Middletown, N.Y. ...
