Gannettoids: At Gannett Co. Inc., Barbara Henry has been named
senior group president of the newly formed Interstate Newspaper Group;
she will remain publisher and president of the Indianapolis Star. The
new group encompasses not only the Star, but also the Cincinnati
Enquirer, The Courier-Journal in Louisville, The Tennessean in
Nashville and the company's other dailies and non-dailies in
Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and southern Ohio. Henry has been with
Gannett since 1974 and was on the launch team for USA Today. She has
been an editor or publisher at papers in Reno, Nev., Rochester, N.Y.,
Great Falls, Mont., and Des Moines, Iowa. Also at Gannett, Roxanne
Horning has been named vice president of human resources; previously
she had been vice president for compensation and benefits. Horning is a
21-year Gannett veteran. Consequently, Robert Oliver has been named
vice president of compensation and benefit; previously he was vice
president of compensation. He's been with Gannett since 1989.
Lastly, Jose Berrios has been named vice president of leadership
development and diversity; previously he had been vice president of
human resources and diversity. Berrios joined Gannett in 1987. ...
Jones juggle: At Dow Jones & Co. Inc., Scott Schulman has been
named vice president and chief strategy officer; previously he was
senior vice president of sales and marketing at DJ's Wall Street
Journal, a job he'd held for 25 months. Schulman started his
career in the finance world at Bain & Co. in Boston and also spent
a decade at Booz, Allen & Hamilton in New York. He joined DJ in 1999
as vice president of planning and later worked as head of the
company's Consumer Electronic Publishing group. Taking
Schulman's job at the paper will be Judy Barry, who previously had
been vice president for marketing and business development. Barry
joined the Journal as vice president for marketing in September 2004,
after serving in a variety of sales roles at the New York Times,
including group director for the Sunday New York Times Magazine.
Earlier in her career, Barry was with both the Los Angeles Times and
the Washington Post. ...
The old switcheroo: At the Minnesota's Duluth New Tribune,
Todd Keute has been named vice president of administration; previously
he was publisher of the Daily Telegram in Superior, Wis. (both are
Knight Ridder papers). He started his career in 1982, selling ads for
Minnesota's Red Wing Republican Eagle and moved to the Daily
Telegram in 1996 as general manager. He was the first non-family member
(of the then-owners, the Murphys) to be publisher of the paper when he
was given the job in 2000. Back at the Daily Telegram, Ken Browall has
been named publisher; previously he was operations, circulation and
marketing director at the News Tribune, joining the company as
circulation director in 2000. Browall started his career as a
10-year-old delivering the Boston Globe and after graduating high
school, spent the next 15 years in the Globe's circulation
department (all the while going to college). Later Browell was with the
South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale. ...
Publisher: At Texas' Waco Tribune-Herald, Michael Vivio has
been named publisher; previously he was general manager, a job
he'd held about nine months. Vivio had served as the
Tribune-Herald's ad director for the previous five years. Vivio
started his career selling subscriptions door-to-door for Cox
Newspapers (owner of the Tribune-Herald) as a teenager. ...
