On March 15 in London, Mexico's Secretariat of Energy and United Kingdom authorities signed off on Mexico's formal entry to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).
The incorporation of Mexico to the partnership will allow Mexico to accelerate the regulatory and legal changes necessary to encourage the incorporation of renewable energies and expansion of energy efficiency programs. These changes are necessary to improve energy security and to promote sustainable development.
Mexico will benefit from the support and experience of other member countries and is committed to identifying and implementing good practices and improved policies and regulations. It will also seek to create effective financial mechanisms to promote the deployment of renewable energies and energy efficient technologies and turn them into economically viable options.
At present, Mexico has applied for REEEP funding to improve the development of methodologies to estimate the contribution of intermittent renewable energies to the capacity of the National Grid System.
