Executive suite: At Cox Newspapers in Atlanta, Brian Cooper has
been named executive vice president; previously he was chief operating
officer of Cox Ohio Publishing and general manager of the Dayton Daily
News, a job he'd held since August 2004. Earlier, Cooper had been
senior vice president of Cox Newspapers. A Dayton native, Cooper joined
the Daily News in 1984 and moved to corporate headquarters in 1987. ...
At The Hearst Corp. of New York City, Steven DeLorenzo has been named
vice president and controller; previously he was assistant treasurer
and assistant corporate controller, based at the Hearst Service Center
in Charlotte, N.C. DeLorenzo joined Hearst in 1984 and earlier was with
the company now known as KPMG. Also at Hearst, Alfred Gatto has been
named vice president of The Hearst Corp. and general manager of the
Service Center; previously he was resident controller in Charlotte and
director of the center. Gatto joined Hearst in 1980 and has held a
variety of corporate finance jobs. These are all in reaction to the
announced Dec. 31 retirement of Thomas Hughes, vice president and
controller of the company and general manager of the center. Hughes was
the key executive responsible for moving Hearst's finance and data
processing operations out of midtown Manhattan to Charlotte in 1991 and
has been in charge of the Service Center ever since. He joined Hearst
in 1971 and earlier spent a decade (save three years in the U.S. Navy)
with Deloitte & Touche. ... At Belo Corp. of Dallas, Anna Nicodemus
has been named vice president of internal audit; previously she was
audit director at Electronic Data Systems (EDS). A 19-year EDS veteran,
Nicodemus also served as audit manager, audit supervisor and audit team
leader. ...
Publisher: At the Oakland Press in Pontiac, Mich., Kevin
Haezebroeck has been named publisher; previously he had been publisher
of the Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens, Mich. (both are 21st
Century/Journal Register Co. papers), a job he'd held since
August. A 20-year veteran of the news business, Haezebroeck has been
with Journal Register since 1999 and preceding Mount Clemens, served as
publisher of the Morning Journal in Lorain, Ohio. ...
Maine's main circulators: At Maine's Portland Press
Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, Steve Infinger has been named
director of operations; previously he was regional production manager
of Virginia's Charlottesville Daily Progress. Earlier in his
career, Infinger did a 13-year stint in packaging and distribution at
Florida's Tampa Tribune. ... At Maine's Lewiston Sun Journal,
Mike Theriault has been named circulation director; previously he had
been assistant circulation director, a job he'd held since 1997.
Theriault is a 15-year veteran of the paper. ...
North Carolina editors: At the Fayetteville Observer, Brian Tolley
has been named executive editor; previously he was assistant managing
editor of The State in Columbia, S.C. Tolley had been with The State
since 1998 and earlier was an editor at the Palm Beach Post in Florida
and editor and reporter at The News-Journal in Daytona Beach, Fla. ...
At the Goldsboro News-Argus, Renee Carey has been named editor; most
recently, she was editor of Georgia's Griffin Daily News, a job
she held for four years. Carey started her career at Ohio's
Ironton Tribune as a reporter, and worked her way up to become managing
editor. ...
Gannett's New York editors: At the Press & Sun-Bulletin in
Binghamton, Calvin Stovall has been named executive editor; previously
he was managing editor of the News Journal in Wilmington, Del., a job
he's held since 2001 (both are Gannett papers). A 32-year
newspaper veteran, Stovall has worked at the San Jose Mercury News, The
News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Ind., the Detroit News, the Atlanta
Journal Constitution, The Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, N.J., and the
Indianapolis Star, where he was managing editor. ... At The
Observer-Dispatch in Utica, Jon Broadbooks has been named editor;
previously he was executive editor of Mississippi's Hattiesburg
American (both are Gannett papers). Broadbrooks joined Gannett in 1993
after working as a reporter and college instructor. He has worked for
papers in Bluefield, W.Va., Chattanooga, Tenn., Houston, Texas,
Jackson, Miss., and Montgomery, Ala. ...
