Fortinet, Sunnyvale, Calif., a pioneer and market leader of Unified
Threat Management and provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based
antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection -- has
announced its entry into the top five ranking of security appliance
vendors in Western Europe, with Cisco, Nokia and Juniper and ahead of
Symantec, based on revenue generated in the first quarter of 2005.
According to new statistics released from leading global market research
firm IDC in its 1Q05 European Quarterly Security Server Appliance
Tracker, Fortinet exhibited the strongest annual revenue growth of the
top-five ranked vendors in 1Q05, demonstrating an increase of 160
percent (1Q05/1Q04). Fortinet was also the top-ranked revenue vendor in
the Western European Unified Threat Management (UTM) category for the
quarter, with 17 percent of total market share.
Fortinet is the pioneer of the UTM market place, offering its
best-in-class security applications -- which include firewall,
antivirus, virtual private network (VPN), intrusion prevention (IPS),
antispam, Web content filtering and traffic shaping -- individually, or
combined as a UTM solution. First introduced in 2002, Fortinet's
FortiGate(TM) systems have since gained widespread market adoption, with
nearly 90,000 units installed worldwide, leading to the strong revenue
growth shown in this IDC research.
Oliver Harcourt, senior research analyst for IDC's European
Enterprise Server Solutions research team said, "This latest report
shows a healthy growth in the UTM security appliance sector, reinforcing
IDC's belief that by 2008, UTM appliances will dominate the
security appliance market. Data from our European Quarterly Security
Server Appliance Tracker shows that Fortinet held the greatest share of
this market in the first quarter, in addition to the number four ranking
in Europe's total security appliance market."
"Fortinet has made considerable inroads into the security
appliance market place within a very short time," said Andre
Stewart, Fortinet's vice president of sales, EMEA. "The annual
revenue growth confirmed by this latest IDC report shows how companies
of all sizes have been quick to realize the benefits of Fortinet's
FortiGate platform, placing us amongst the leading security vendors
today. We believe this strong growth rate will continue and look forward
to taking an even more prominent position within the top revenue
rankings over the next quarters."
Fortinet's FortiGate Series of unified threat management
systems deliver the highest level of security available by combining a
suite of best-in-class applications that include firewall, antivirus,
IPS, VPN, Web filtering, antispam and traffic shaping. FortiGate systems
have been awarded certification from the Common Criteria Evaluation
Assurance Augmented (EAL 4+) and NSS, and are the only security systems
in the world that are certified four times over by ICSA. FortiGate
systems add a critical layer of real-time, network-based antivirus
protection that complements host-based antivirus software and supports
"defense-in-depth" strategies without compromising performance
or cost.
