Shoppers see restaurants as doing a better job of responding to the
new weight focus than supermarkets. They are sympathetic with
supermarkets on the one hand, but blame them for advertising and
merchandising showcases the snack foods that cause most of the
overweight in ways that get customers to want and buy them on impulse
before thinking about the consequences. "The least supermarkets
could do is put the healthier stuff at eye level and the snack foods and
unhealthy stuff higher up. Right now, they make it too easy to grab the
junk."
