The University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy celebrated its partnerships with the business community when two of its many corporate partners and a former UAA student were among those recognized with awards at the CBPP annual awards ceremony.
Marc Langland, president of Northrim Bank, received the Outstanding Corporate Citizen Award for his material assistance to the college through corporate gifts and recruiting other supporters for the college. He serves on the Business Policy Advisory Council, has hosted receptions for business leaders to meet the accrediting team, and supported student awards and faculty research.
Paul Davis, partner in the law firm Preston Gates and Ellis, received the award for Outstanding Service Contribution to the College for establishing a public lecture series.
Dorin Parasca received the Outstanding Service Contribution to the College by an Alumnus. Parasca and his wife, Argentina, fund the Parasca Distinguished Speaker series at the Center for Economic Education, which brought 2004 Nobel Prize winner in Economics, Edward Prescott, to campus recently.
Chancellor Elaine P. Maimon was among the 11 inductees to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society, at an awards ceremony conducted by the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy.
UAA Provost Dr. Theodore Kassier, Dr. Edward Forrest of the CBPP faculty and graduating students Jilian Campbell, Amber Dawn Hansen, Jessica Rigby, Shirley Uldrich, Ailene Valdez, Elissa Wakefield, Caren Wickman and Clinton Wight also were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma.
Clinton Wight, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting, received the Academic Excellence Award.
Byron Gray, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management information systems, received the Student Leader of the Year Award.
Dr. Stephen Jackstadt received the 2005 Advisor of the Year award for his work with the Economics Club in presenting several outstanding events shared with the entire campus, including a discussion on social security with Sen. Lisa Murkowski.
Dr. Bogdan Hoanca, assistant professor of computer information systems, received the Teacher of the Year Award for his outstanding work with students, including the business plan competition and his inspiration to his students to strive for excellence.
Dr. Paul Johnson presented the Diane Olsen Memorial Scholarship to Kathleen Ahern-Karnes. This award presents a scholarship to a promising junior studying in the field of economics.
