More Resources

Letter to the editors.(Letter to the Editor)

As always, I looked forward to my latest edition of the Government Finance Review from the GFOA, but did not expect to be utterly entranced by it! As I opened it and promptly went to the feature on the UK's CIPFA FM Model, alas, there is the perfect matrix for me to present to my agency. Over the course of a four-year period, the Executive Team of the Washington State Department of Natural Resources has been driving toward what our mission and principles are. I have been the lone voice advocating for not only the stewardship of our land, resources, and environment, but also for including the financial aspects up-front. Internal controls and business risks that we are willing to take are in a prominent place in the matrix (which I have highlighted in bold). It is as if this was laid out specifically for me to present to the non-financial executives and managers.

Thank you so much for this article in particular, and thank you for making my job that much easier!

Rhonda Reinke, Finance Manager/CFO Washington State Department of Natural Resources
