Cushioned clutch.

Designfax • August, 2005 • Motion Control Marketplace

In addition to overload protection, high machine speeds can be obtained by inserting a slip clutch into a machine system. The friction surfaces developed for this clutch result in static friction being lower than dynamic friction, thereby cushioning suddenly applied loads. Tension on paper, wire film, thread, etc. is gradually applied and is half that of a sudden load. The machine can then run much faster without overloading the material. The machine is also cushioned against shock.
