Decru, Inc., the leader in storage security, and PeakData, U.S.
master distributor of the Fujitsu-Siemens CentricStor Virtual Tape
System, has announced an integrated, high-performance solution for
producing high-capacity, encrypted tapes from mainframe computer data.
Available immediately, the system provides a powerful answer to the
problem of consolidating backups from open systems and mainframe
environments, while ensuring the security of all data on backup media.
Organizations today are faced with significant challenges relating
to data protection. Not only must they ensure all critical data is
backed up for availability and disaster recovery, but they must also
ensure any sensitive or regulated data is secure throughout its
lifecycle. This is especially important when data resides on backup
tape. Tapes are small, easily concealed or misplaced, and are frequently
entrusted to third parties for transport or offsite storage.
The CentricStor solution is a turnkey mainframe backup system
configured in a 19-inch rack. It combines a CentricStor Model 100 -- a
virtual tape system that connects ESCON and FICON mainframe channels to
Fibre Channel storage resources -- and Decru DataFort(TM) FC-Series
storage security appliances, which provide wire-speed, hardware-based
encryption for backup tapes. Decru's Lifetime Key Management(TM)
System automates all archiving of encryption keys, and ensures easy
recovery at any location. The rack also incorporates a StorageTek SL500
tape library, two LTO-2 tape drives (with room for up to six drives) and
120 tape cartridges with capacity of up to 50 terabytes of data. This
system can be seamlessly integrated into highly heterogeneous storage
environments, and ensures that all open systems and mainframe data sent
to tape is secured through strong encryption.
"The recent spate of tape transportation issues points to a
glaring weakness in data security that has existed for far too
long," said Mike Holland, general manager of the CentricStor
Business Unit of PeakData, Inc. "As businesses continue to ship
tapes for data interchange and archiving, they must find ways to better
secure the data on those tapes. PeakData has put together the first ever
solution to enable seamless open system backups and security for
heterogeneous mainframe environments, without degrading performance or
disrupting existing processes."
"By leveraging the broad mainframe-to-Fibre Channel
connectivity of CentricStor, Decru DataFort(TM) appliances can provide a
unified platform for enterprise security across open systems and
mainframe environments," said Serge Plotkin, chief technology
officer of Decru. "Working together with Fujitsu Siemens, the
manufacturer of CentricStor, we have already satisfied the backup
security needs of a major global banking institution. Combining this
proven architecture with best of breed storage technology and compact
packaging takes the solution to the next level."
