Intellisync Corporation (NASDAQ:SYNC), San Jose, Calif., a leading
developer and marketer of wireless email and mobile software, has been
selected as the mobility platform for VIVO, the largest operator of
mobile telephony in the Southern Hemisphere, and one of the largest CDMA
carriers in the world. VIVO, part of the Portugal Telecom and Telefonica
Moviles groups, will license Intellisync mobile software to deliver
push-based wireless email and data synchronization capabilities across a
wide range of mobile device types to its more than 27 million customers
in Brazil. VIVO is ranked as No. 10 in worldwide rankings of the largest
global mobile carriers by RCR Wireless News with an estimated market
share of 45% in Brazil. The company is present today in 19 Brazilian
States plus the Federal District, corresponding to 86% of the Brazilian
territory encompassing 83% of the country's GNP. The technological
option of the company is CDMA, the basis for the third generation of
mobile telephony, according to the International Telecommunications
Union -- ITU.
Vivo Smartmail, "Powered by Intellisync," allows users to
wirelessly access personal and enterprise e-mails based on Lotus Notes,
Microsoft Exchange, POP3 or IMAP servers. The Intellisync technology
allows continuous bidirectional synchronization, ensuring that any
change in a user's handheld device (including contacts, email,
calendar items and tasks) is automatically synchronized with the data on
the user's personal computer.
"We believe that it [Smartmail] is a superior solution to some
of the other competing solutions; it is more complete and is not tied to
a specific terminal (device)," said Roger Sole, Vivo's
director of business-oriented data solutions.
The solution will initially be released with the following PDAs
offered by the operator -- the Harrier by Audiovox (Microsoft OS) and
the Palm Treo 600 -- both devices offer a qwerty keyboard. "One of
the advantages is that corporate users can integrate additional
applications within the same device," added Sole. According to
Sole, the initial target market will be large corporations. "After
that, we will lead to offer the solution to SME's (small and medium
size enterprises) and close to the end of the year we will target the
independent professionals," he said.
"Intellisync is the wireless email provider of choice for the
world's largest and most demanding mobile carriers, and we are
thrilled to be selected as the primary wireless email provider for the
largest mobile carrier in South America," said Clyde Foster,
Intellisync's chief operating officer. "The agreement with
VIVO represents a large win for Intellisync and its expanding global
presence. Our comprehensive mobility platform and, ubiquitous device and
application support make Intellisync an ideal partner for driving
activations and revenue opportunities for VIVO."
Recent agreements with mobile carriers worldwide such as Vivo,
Sprint and Verizon Wireless have increased Intellisync's available
market for wireless messaging solutions. Within the mobile carrier
marketplace, Intellisync is becoming known for having experience in
delivering large deployments of wireless email over the industry's
widest array of mobile devices and application platforms. The company is
also being cited for its presence and expertise in both the mobile
carrier and enterprise markets, which is necessary to meet the needs of
multiple customer segments that the larger carriers serve, such as
small-to-mid-sized businesses and large corporations.
Intellisync Provides Wireless Email and More
Developed as a single, manageable platform for both mobile carriers
and enterprises, the Intellisync Carrier Platform provides network-based
push email, synchronization of data and files, and integrated device
management -- all "over-the-air." Intellisync's
carrier-grade, push technology platform with broad patent protection,
provides multiple deployment models for virtually any mobile device.
This allows mobile carriers to address every segment of the market, from
large enterprises to medium-sized businesses as well as individual
consumers.
In the past year alone, Intellisync has received Windows & .NET
Magazine's "Best of TechEd 2004" Award as the top
solution in the "Mobile PCs and Devices" category; Network
Computing magazine's 2004 Well-Connected Award as "Best Mobile
Wireless Email System"; and the MobileTrax Mobility Award as the
best Mobile Enterprise Software. Intellisync recently beat out Research
In Motion (RIM) to receive the highest overall grade awarded in Network
Computing's 2005 annual review of leading mobile messaging gateway
vendors.
