A statewide nonprofit organization called Spirit of Youth is honoring Alaska businesses that promote and support youth efforts in the business world.
"Our primary mission is positive recognition for youth in the state of Alaska," said Cher Easley, executive director of Spirit of Youth. "However, in the last two years, our teen council has created criteria and is accepting applications for businesses in Alaska that would like to be designated 'youth friendly.'"
The categories considered for Youth-Friendly Business awards are: Businesses that treat young customers with respect, hire youth, and support community activities for youth. Nominees can be made at www.spiritofyouth.org. At the recent 8th annual awards banquet, this year's YFB businesses were:
Alaska & Proud Grocery in Juneau, Crostini's in Anchorage, Alaska Sports Fishing in Ketchikan, Southeast Waffle Company in Juneau, Huffman Music in Anchorage, Super Bear Grocery in Juneau, Tastee Freez in Anchorage, Sweet Dreams Tea in Juneau, N & N Market in Dillingham, and Bitoz Cafe in Anchorage.
