NexTune, a Redmond, Wash., start up is offering consumers over
$50,000 in free music to help build its Music Recognition database.
NexTune is building the most comprehensive song identification system
for digital music recognition. Until now, online music databases such as
Gracenote(TM), the FreeDB and The All Music Group(TM) have only provided
CD level information. NexTune is launching the first song level database
that provides detailed song profiles, such as tempo, style, vocals,
moods and even instruments contained in a song. When you combine
NexTune's song profile database with its patent pending music
play-listing technology, consumers now can create play-lists comprised
of hundreds of songs in a matter of seconds.
Unlike other online database systems, NexTune offers the music
consumer a 10 cent credit towards music purchases from their built in CD
music store for every song profile they submit from their music
collection. For the music consumer, it pays to play. NexTune has
published over 500,000 songs that consumers can profile using the
NexTune play-list software.
Michael DuKane, NexTune president, stated, "Technology
companies have done a good job at solving the storage and portability
issue surrounding digital music. But they have done little to actually
empower the music consumer with the ability to create custom play-lists
based on the characteristics of a song. We take play-listing music to a
whole new level. Our system lets you build play-lists based on your mood
or attitude. The idea of the music lover having to drag and position
songs in a list to achieve a smooth flow is asking a lot from someone
who simply wants to enjoy their music collection. We make it simple for
consumers who combine our patent pending song profile system with their
music collection to make a play-list that would challenge some of the
world's best professional music programmers."
NexTune is the only music software that integrates both
Apple's Fair Play technology with Microsoft's(TM) DRM
technology to play both iTunes(TM) purchased music and songs purchased
from other music sites featuring Microsoft's
"PlaysForSure"(TM) technology. Consumers can play-list both
music formats back to back in the same play-list. This is a major step
at freeing the consumer from the limitations imposed by the technology
companies, while at the same time respecting the rights of the music
publishers and artists.
Michael DuKane explains, "We didn't crack anyone's
DRM, we simply leveraged their technology by building the only player
that incorporates the competing DRM technologies into a single
application. We went even further by building the NexTune player around
our own proprietary play-list technology to provide the most powerful
play-listing music player ever introduced. And, this is only the
beginning. We will soon release NexTune 3.0 in a few short months that
will incorporate compatibility with the most popular portable digital
media devices including the iPod(TM). The NexTune promise is full and
complete compatibility across all platforms."
NexTune is also the only music software that features a built in CD
music store that lets users buy new and used CDs in addition to allowing
them to sell CDs they don't want anymore for instant credit. Users
of the NexTune software can use the credits to buy CDs they do want in
the NexTune Music Store.
Michael DuKane outlines the future of NexTune to also include a
digital music download store. He explains, "We are all about music
and we're all about compatibility. It is what the entire music
industry should be committed to and require of all digital music
services. Conflicting technology only supports the technology companies
and has a damaging effect on the music business. Our digital download
music store will follow these same principles and only offer cross
platform compatible music. The introduction of NexTune is living proof
you can have cross compatible technology without sacrificing the
protections of DRM. The music industry just has to take a united stand
and make it a licensing requirement of technology companies who choose
to be in the music business."
