The Engineering Technology Management from Portland State University's Maseeh College of Engineering conducts an annual conference titled Portland International Conference for Management of Engineering and Technology. The inaugural conference was held in 1991 and this year was the conference's fifteenth anniversary. The annual conference was always held in Portland, Oregon, USA, and many countries were constantly sending in proposals for hosting the conference. PICMET conference went overseas for the first time in 2004 and the host nation was Korea. This year the conference was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 9 to 13 July. TUBITAK, Turkey's Scientific Council hosted the conference in Hyatt Regency Istanbul. The theme for this year's conference was 'The role of technology management for the global future'.
This year's conference attracted three hundred and twenty nine submissions from authors representing more than two hundred universities and one hundred companies, research institutes and government agencies. Two hundred and fifty six of these papers were accepted for presentations. Eighty percent of the accepted papers belonged to the research track with the rest classified as applications or practice papers. The conference had one hundred and eight sessions including tutorials, workshops, panel discussions, key note talks and paper presentations. These were organized over four days with a maximum of eight parallel sessions.
The conference attracted more than five hundred participants. The conference will be held in Oregon in 2007 and in South Africa in 2008.
