The Alaska Gasline Port Authority (AGPA) and the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority (ANGDA) recently formalized a relationship between the two voter-approved entities via a Memorandum of Understanding.
"Alaskans working together is the best approach to developing a natural gas pipeline project. It ensures in-state distribution of Alaska's gas in the quickest possible time frame and does so in a manner that brings maximum benefit to Alaskans," said AGPA Chairman Jim Whitaker.
The AGPA, created by an overwhelming North Slope, Fairbanks and Valdez voter approval in 1999 to "build or cause to be built" a natural gas pipeline through Alaska, holds the exclusive rights to the senior right-of-way and permits necessary to construct a trans-Alaska natural gas pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez and associated LNG facilities.
ANGDA, pursuant to its statutory authorization to ensure distribution of natural gas and propane within Alaska, as well as pursue a natural gas pipeline project, has obtained the conditional right-of-way for a spur line from Glennallen to Palmer.
