The board of directors of the Anchorage Economic Development Corp. hired Bill Popp as president and CEO. Popp (as of April 2) replaced Bob Poe, who announced his departure in January. Popp comes to AEDC from the Kenai Peninsula Borough where he most recently served as oil, gas and mining liaison for Mayor John Williams.
Once named Businessperson of the Year by the Alaska State Legislature, Popp will be responsible for leading the private, nonprofit corporation in its efforts to encourage growth and diversity in the Anchorage economy.
Prior to joining AEDC, Popp served Williams of the Kenai Peninsula Borough with a focus on oil, gas and mining development for the community. From 1996 to 2002, Popp held an elected position on the KPB Assembly and, in 2000, he presided over the assembly as president. He also has private industry experience as a small-business owner.
