German service provider EWE TEL has selected Infinera as the
optical backbone for EWE TEL's network.
Located in Oldenburg, EWE TEL is one of Germany's leading
regional telecom operators and provides services including high-speed
Internet access, voice services, wireless, and enterprise data to more
than 300,000 customers in northern Germany. The company was founded in
1996 as a subsidiary of EWE Aktiengesellschaft, which ranks among
Germany's major energy companies. EWE TEL uses its own
telecommunications network, which spans approximately 25,000 kilometers,
to provide its services to customers in more than 350 cities and
municipalities in the federal states of Lower Saxony and Brandenburg and
in the city state of Bremen. Key components of the telecommunications
business are conventional telephone services, mobile communication,
Internet services, and custom solutions for business customers.
The European systems integrations partner AXIANS, represented in
Germany by NK Networks & Services, introduced the Infinera Digital
Optical Networks solution to the North German full-line provider EWE TEL
in 2005. After intense evaluation, EWE TEL selected Infinera's
Digital Optical Networks architecture to provision services quickly and
cost-effectively as network demands grow and evolve. With high-speed
Internet traffic growing significantly, EWE TEL needs the flexibility to
react to sudden customer demands. The advanced features and
functionality of the Infinera DTN platform also makes it economic for
EWE TEL to deploy Infinera in many cities in its network, bringing the
advantages of integrated bandwidth management and GMPLS network
intelligence to EWE TEL's entire network.
"We selected Infinera because we see that Infinera's
photonic integration gives us the most flexibility to react to customer
demands within our region and operate cost optimal optical networks. NK
Networks & Services -- our long-experienced system integrator --
helped us deploy and integrate the Infinera platform within our
network," said Dr. Manfred Burke, Head of Development Department at
EWE TEL.
"We are very pleased to be working with EWE TEL as one of our
newest customers in Europe," said Infinera co-founder and CEO
Jagdeep Singh. "We believe that the Infinera solution is a great
fit for fast-growing service providers like EWE TEL who are at the
leading edge of new Internet services deployments and who focus on
delivering cost-effective and highly reliable services to their
customers."
With total capacity of 800 Gb/s and fast, simple service turn-up
thanks to its digital architecture, the Infinera DTN is designed to meet
the needs of high-bandwidth networks and fast-growing networks. The
Infinera DTN is architected to combine high-capacity transport, fully
reconfigurable switching, and GMPLS service intelligence in one
platform.
