* Get ready for the 28th annual Detroit International Jazz Festival, held Labor Day weekend at Hart Plaza. This year's festival will honor the jazz roots of Detroit and Chicago through a friendly challenge between artists from each city. Billed as "The Rumble in the Great Lakes," the festival will feature internationally renowned jazz violinist Regina Carter and Grammy-award winning jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock.

* Blue coller workwear for women hasn't been readily available in the past, but now Carhartt, Inc. is changing that. the Dearborn company, which has manufactured best-in-class appearel for the active worker since 1889, began offering workwear in fits and sizes designed especially for women.

* GrowDetroit.com, a new site launched last month, aims to foster the developement and growth of business in Detroit. The interactive site includes an executive blog and provides a forum for local business and community leaders to connect and network with the community. The site's DealFlow section allows investors to persue ideas for new businessess and links would-be-entrepreneurs who seek funding with local capital.

* If you're looking for a healthy new lunch option downtown, Chamber member Salad Creations offers salads, wraps, soups and smoothies. Customers can also customize their own meals with the assistance of enthusiastic and service-focused "salad chefs." Salad Creations is located at 1043 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226.

* Most companies don't realize it, but a large portion of their talent pool - up to 70% (according to RHR International study) - will be retiring in the next three to five years. In Dr. Eric Herzog's soon to be released book Future Leaders, Herzog details how to assess, identify and train new leaders - and even more importantly, how to transfer hard earned, company-specific knowledge from current successful leaders to up and coming leaders.
