DR. LABOR FIRST TO USE FEMTO LDV SURGICAL LASER/GALILEI.

Dr. Phillips Kirk Labor, founder of Grapevine-based Eye Consultants of Texas, is the first ophthalmologist in Texas and the first in United States private practice to successfully complete LASIK procedures with the newly-FDA approved FEMTO LDV surgical laser and GALILEI corneal mapping system, the latest in laser vision correction technology available.

Developed and first-used in Europe, the FEMTO LDV provides patients with a true all-laser, blade-free LASIK procedure. The FEMTO LDV and the GALILEI offer patients a safer, faster and more precise way to evaluate and create a corneal "flap," providing what some experts consider to be an even safer LASIK procedure than the current offerings, resulting in less discomfort and faster visual recovery.

As Dr. Labor is the first in U.S. private practice to own and operate this technology, Eye Consultants of Texas will act as a training ground for other ophthalmologists looking to use the FEMTO LDV and GALILEI. The manufacturer of the machinery reports that two other machines were previously delivered to the U.S., but both are at teaching hospitals. Dr. Labor attended specialized, extensive training in Switzerland to learn the ins and outs of the FEMTO LDV and GALILEI system.

The FEMTO LDV is a compact, mobile surgical laser, which allows physicians to perform all-laser, blade-free LASIK surgery. The GALILEI corneal mapping system measures the shape and thickness of the eye's cornea to a greater degree of accuracy than could previously be accomplished. The GALILEI component creates more precise diagnosis and treatment of LASIK candidates. Because of the greater accuracy and precise measurements, the GALILEI reduces the risks associated with LASIK surgery and enhances patient safety. Naturally, risk cannot be eliminated completely.
