QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), Aliso Viejo, Calif., a leader in
networking for storage and high performance computing, has announced
that the widely used message passing interface (MPI) library for
InfiniBand known as MVAPICH (pronounced as em-vah- pich) developed by
The Ohio State University, is now enhanced to run on QLogic(r)
InfiniBand host channel adapters (HCAs). Now HPC sites using this
popular software can significantly boost connectivity performance with
QLogic InfiniBand HCAs, which deliver the lowest latency and highest
message rates in the industry.
"With software innovations like MVAPICH, which optimizes the
performance of InfiniBand cluster computing, research labs and
commercial companies continue to benefit from the advantages of
supercomputing," said Dhabaleswar K. (DK) Panda, professor of
computer science and engineering at The Ohio State University and leader
of the MVAPICH research team. "The QLogic InfiniBand HyperMessaging
Architecture(tm) offers competitive performance with MVAPICH
implementations."
The QLogic InfiniBand HyperMessaging Architecture delivers the
highest message rate and highest effective bandwidth of any cluster
interconnect available. It allows QLogic InfiniBand HCAs to support over
10 million messages per second, or 10X-MR. By achieving 10X-MR, QLogic
InfiniBand HCAs delivers over 10 times more messages per second than any
other cluster interconnect. Their unprecedented messaging rate also
reduces network fabric congestion as the InfiniBand adapter will no
longer be the network bottleneck.
"The Ohio State University has advanced supercomputing to new
levels of affordable high performance with MVAPICH," said Roger
Klein, vice president and general manager, QLogic Host Solutions Group.
"Government and business users can now combine this prevalent MPI
with the QLogic InfiniBand HyperMessaging Architecture for faster
calculations than ever, which translates into faster results, a
priceless advantage."
The MVAPICH software is available from and supported by The Ohio
State University.
About MVAPICH
MVAPICH software works by connecting traditional supercomputing
software with innovative networking technology that speeds data flow.
MVAPICH/MVAPICH2 is being used by more than 535 organizations world-wide
to extract the potential of InfiniBand, iWARP and other RDMA-enabled
interconnect networking technologies for designing high-end computing
systems and servers. More details on this software can be obtained from
