United Conference addresses legislation, policies
impacting produce industry.
The annual United Fresh Produce Association's Washington
Public Policy Conference (WPPC) in Washington, DC, is set for September
12-14 at the Renaissance Washington Hotel. Attendees will hear from top
level administration officials and meet with congressional delegates and
key Washington leaders on an array of issues affecting the produce
industry, including the Farm Bill, immigration reform, federal food
safety requirements, USDA's Fruit and Vegetable Pilot program and
country of origin labeling.
WPPC attendees will come together for a welcome reception on
Wednesday, Sept 12, after an afternoon Advocacy & Grassroots Seminar
that will prepare industry members for the March on Capitol Hill the
next day.
On Thursday, following an afternoon of congressional meetings,
members of Congress, staff, regulatory officials, and friends of the
produce industry will relax at the ever-popular Fresh Festival, of which
the AMI is a sponsor. Friday, attendees will select between a White
House briefing, Crisis Communications Workshop and a Sights and Sound
Tour of a Washington landmark before the closing luncheon session.
Last year, the WPPC event attracted nearly 300 growers, shippers,
retailers, wholesalers, and distributors of produce from around the
country. WPPC attendance has grown in record numbers and with all the
key policy issues facing the produce industry, 2007 will be no
different. For more information, visit http://www.unitedfresh.org/
