Eight talented college accounting majors, representing the best in Ohio, competed for the top spot in the Society's annual Scholarship Day for 2007. Sponsored by the OSCPA Educational Foundation, the April event awards a scholarship to students who demonstrate knowledge of the accounting profession.

Lindsey Wierwille of Bowling Green State University received the first-place award of $3,000. Ryan Castle of Mount Vernon Nazarene University received the second-place award of $1,500.

Each of the candidates had previously won a regional scholarship, making them eligible to attend Scholarship Day to compete for a statewide scholarship. Throughout the event, they were interviewed by members of The Ohio Society who served as volunteer judges. Students were evaluated based on their strong grasp of the issues facing the CPA profession and ability to clearly articulate them.

"The information I learned when researching to prepare for the day, and what I gained during conversations with the judges has certainly added to my education," said Iris Wilson, a student from the University of Cincinnati.

The Society thanks the following members who served as judges:

* Yvonne Baker, CPA, Cincinnati State Technology & Community College

* Jim Bronder, CPA, The University of Northwestern Ohio

* Jerry Esselstein, CPA, Jerry L. Esselstein Company, LLC

* Paul Etzler, CPA, Skoda Minotti & Co.
