Extreme Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR and Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV , a
leading global provider of business communications applications, systems
and services, have successfully compliance tested Extreme Networks(R)
Summit WM 200 and Summit WM 2000 wireless local area network (LAN)
solutions with Avaya's market-leading Internet protocol (IP)
telephony solutions.
Through Avaya's compliance process, Extreme Networks Summit WM
200, Summit WM 2000 controllers and Altitude Access Points (APs) were
successfully tested for interoperability with Avaya Communication
Manager 4.0 IP telephony software and with Avaya 3600 series wireless IP
phones, featuring standards- based 802.11a/b/g technology for mobile
communications.
Tests demonstrated that the Extreme Networks Summit WM wireless LAN
controllers authenticated phones as they entered the wireless network
and supported consistent calls with both Avaya wireless IP phones and
Avaya IP softphones. Call sessions were also maintained without call
shuffles or drops while devices roamed between separately located access
points.
"Enterprises are seeking a seamless transition between their
wired and wireless networks to support voice calls reliably and
securely," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, vice president and general
manager for the Emerging Products Group for Extreme Networks. "Our
Summit WM wireless LAN system provides the intelligence, security and
roaming capabilities that are now tested with Avaya's world-class
IP telephony solutions, giving customers the confidence they need to
deploy a complete mobility solution."
Extreme Networks Summit WM wireless LAN controllers and Altitude
APs were validated for interoperability through the Avaya
DeveloperConnection program - an initiative to promote the development,
compliance-testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products
that are compatible with standards-based Avaya solutions.
"With the compliance testing of wireless LAN solutions from
Extreme Networks, Avaya customers have the opportunity to implement a
fully interoperable mobility solution that can help them unleash
powerful new possibilities for their business," adds Eric Rossman,
vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya.
"They are able to use intelligent communications to help customers
and colleagues connect with employees on the move - improving response
times and delivering new value to their bottom line."
