Faleh in August was promoted as Saudi Aramco's new operations
chief. Widely expected to succeed Jum'ah as president/CEO of the
company, Faleh later made a series of management changes to build a new
executive team. Faleh assumed control of a new business centre named
Operations on Sept. 1.
The Operations division handles the day-to-day business of Saudi
Aramco. Faleh thus controls four main business units: exploration and
production (E&P); refining, marketing and international; operations
services; and engineering and project management. Faleh joined Saudi
Aramco in 1979 and has since moved steadily up the management ranks,
heading the new business development, exploration and industrial
relations divisions in the past five years.
As part of a wider corporate re-organisation, Saudi Aramco's
Sr VP for E&P, Abdullah al-Saif was placed on special assignment
reporting directly to Jum'ah. Amin Nasser was kept as head of the
E&P division. Khayyal took Faleh's post as head of industrial
relations. Khaled al-Bu'ainain, VP for refining, took
Khayyal's position.
Faleh made his appointments effective from Sept. 1. A most
significant change involved Abdul-Aziz al-Judaimi taking up the post of
VP of new business development from Issam al-Bayat, who was shifted to
head of the engineering services division. Al-Judaimi, until then head
of Saudi Aramco's northern area oil operations, was also made
chairman of the South Rub' al-Khali (Srak) exploration company, a
position Faleh relinquished earlier in the year. Srak is a JV of Saudi
Aramco, Shell and Total.
Fahd al-Moosa, previously VP of drilling and workover, succeeded
Judaimi as head of the northern area. Zuhair al-Hussein, previously
general manager of drilling, took over Moosa's post as VP of
drilling and workover. Ahmad al-Sa'di, who had been acting
executive director of distribution and terminal operations, took on that
position on a permanent basis.
The changes marked the second major overhaul of management
responsibilities at Saudi Aramco, with Faleh's promotion sparking a
wider corporate reorganisation in August.
