"Journal of Web Librarianship" is a new quarterly journal
that is designed to provide a forum for the examination of the
multidimensional applications of the Web in the library setting. It
discusses new and practical uses of the Web "in every aspect"
of service and administration, Haworth said, and focuses on topics that
relate to the Web, including the integration of the Web into various
aspects of library functions, Web page design, search engines,
information architecture and future aspects of Web librarianship.
Content includes regular columns on social communities and virtual
spaces, Web-related library projects outside the U.S., and reviews of
literature related to Web librarianship, and also includes coverage of:
intranet Web pages for serials departments; managing electronic
journals; Web interfaces with virtual reference software; Web access to
journals and databases; using banner advertising and web conversion
rates; and, implementing a library wiki. An annual subscription costs
$30 for individuals and $60 for institutions.
The "Journal of Library Metadata," re-titled from the
"Journal of Internet Cataloging" to reflect a wider focus,
carries information on the latest research, innovations, news and
commentaries about all aspects of metadata applications in libraries and
about the role of metadata in information retrieval. Haworth said it is
designed to carry "applicable information" that libraries can
use in their own information discovery environments.
Editorial includes information on: application profiles; best
practices; controlled vocabularies; metadata and interoperability;
digital libraries and metadata; federated repositories and searching;
content standards; preservation; searching methods; topic maps; and,
visual image and moving image metadata. An annual subscription costs $48
for individuals and $165 for institutions and libraries.
