MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MIPS), Mountain View, Calif. , a
leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores
for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications
and business applications, has announced that AMIMON, an emerging leader
in semiconductor technology for wireless transmission of high-definition
(HD) video, has licensed the low-power MIPS32(R) M4K(R) core for
development of wireless HD audio and video transfer applications.
The market for HD video is already booming for devices including
HDTV and DVD players. ABI Research forecasted sales of 2.4 million HD
video players in 2007, rising to 55 million in 2011, and In-Stat
predicted that more than 60 million households will have at least one
wide screen, HDTV display in their home by the end of 2007.
AMIMON's new WHDI(TM) chipsets for wireless streaming of
uncompressed HD video and audio are poised to help grow the market even
further by enabling a new generation of wireless HD products.
"To achieve the wire-like quality and speed of AMIMON's
wireless HD technology for consumer electronic devices, the underlying
technology must offer the best possible mix of high performance, low
cost and low power," said Yoav Nissan-Cohen, CEO, AMIMON. "The
MIPS32 M4K core delivers on this promise, and because it is small and
synthesizable, it also offers the design flexibility we need to quickly
get our products to market."
"Companies like AMIMON are pioneering the next generation of
technology for the digital home, and we are very pleased that they chose
MIPS," said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of worldwide sales at
MIPS Technologies. "With today's consumer electronics,
it's all about performance, power and price, and the M4K core wins
in each of these areas. MIPS continues to be the technology of choice
for the digital home for products like cable modems, DVD recorders,
DTVs, and cable set-top boxes."
MIPS Technologies offers SoC designers a comprehensive range of
MIPS- Verified(TM) solutions for high-performance, low-power,
cost-effective consumer applications. The small, high-performance M4K
core offers a superior solution for multi-CPU SoC designs, which are
becoming increasingly popular in next-generation networking and
broadband applications.
