Woodhead Industries, Lincolnshire, Ill., a division of Molex
Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX)(NASDAQ: MOLXA), has unveiled the
BradCommunications SST Modbus and Modbus TCP network interface modules.
The BradCommunications SST Modbus and Modbus TCP network interface
modules provide a fast and easy way to connect Modbus networks to the
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix system. When the ControlLogix processor
combines with the SST module, users benefit by quickly and easily being
able to communicate with Modbus and Modbus TCP in a reliable and
effective manner.
The SST modules are available in 2 versions. The SST-SR4-CLX-RLL
module offers 4 independent RS232/RS485 serial ports operating as master
and/or slave Modbus protocols supporting ASCII and RTU formats. The
SST-ESR2-CLX-RLL module provides 2 serial ports (using the same features
as the SST-SR4-CLX-RLL) and 1 Ethernet port executing Modbus TCP (UDP
and IP) protocol in both client and server modes simultaneously. Quick
to implement in your control application, the SST modules act as input /
output modules and share I/O process data directly with the ControlLogix
processor's memory without the need to write any ladder logic.
The configuration setup to exchange data between the Modbus and
Modbus TCP devices and the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix is accomplished
through the use of a Windows software console that supports the
Allen-Bradley Remote Link Library (RLL) feature allowing remote
monitoring and downloading of changes to the network configuration. The
configuration can also be stored on a USB memory stick and then plugged
into the SST module so it can be booted using the new configuration.
The SST modules can also act as a gateway. One example where this
feature can be applied is the reading of the data from a serial Modbus
slave and then writing it through the Ethernet Modbus TCP port. This
function is achieved through the use of the SST module's internal
database of 32K words and 32K bits that can also be shared with the
ControlLogix processor.
Applications where the BradCommunications SST Modbus and Modbus TCP
network interface modules can be used include food processing, mining,
building automation, petrochemical and manufacturing industries. Through
its Brad product line, the company offers a complete line of products
for Ethernet and Serial networks which empower the industrial
infrastructure including PC & PLC interfaces, gateways, diagnostic
tools, simulation software, cable, cordsets, connectors, receptacles,
distribution boxes and I/O modules.
