EMC Corporation, a leader in information infrastructure solutions,
has announced innovative new storage capabilities and features to help
customers using the latest software from Oracle deploy business
solutions faster, better control costs and improve information
management. They include pre-tested, integrated and documented
configurations for Oracle Database environments as well as the
validation of EMC technology with Oracle Database 11g, which allows
faster and easier configuration and management of EMC network attached
storage (NAS) in Oracle grid computing environments.
EMC and Oracle jointly tested the Oracle Database 11g Direct NFS
Client (network file system) feature. By integrating Direct NFS Client
directly into the database software, Oracle Database 11g users can
streamline performance and functionality as the database communicates
automatically with the storage system. This eliminates time consuming
manual tasks, including setting NFS parameters such as block size, cache
size and other parameters. EMC worked extensively with Oracle as a beta
test partner.
EMC and Oracle have also released the Oracle Enterprise Manager
System Monitoring Plug-in for EMC(R) CLARiiON(R) networked storage
systems. The System Monitoring Plug-in helps administrators monitor the
availability, performance, and usage of EMC CLARiiON storage systems,
including LUN, MetaLUN, disk and port configurations in conjunction with
Oracle databases. Using EMC Navisphere(R) CLI as its interface to the
storage array, the System Monitoring Plug-in ensures that administrators
can respond rapidly to all errors or warning conditions reported on the
EMC CLARiiON system using the easy-to-use Enterprise Manager Grid
Control web interface. Similar System Monitoring Plug-ins are available
for EMC Symmetrix(R) and EMC Celerra(R) storage systems.
As part of its EMC Information Infrastructure for Oracle program,
announced earlier this year, EMC continues to introduce Proven Solutions
for Oracle environments. These reference architectures and configuration
guides give large and midsize customers tested and proven guidelines,
combined with professional services expertise, to help design and deploy
EMC networked storage systems and software with Oracle in several areas,
including grid computing, data warehousing, enterprise Linux and
enterprise security. The latest solutions, available at
www.emc.com/solutions/oracle, include reference architectures and
configuration guides for deploying EMC technology in Oracle Database 11g
and Oracle Database 10g grid environments.
All of the EMC Information Infrastructure for Oracle Solutions are
backed by the EMC-Oracle Joint Escalation Center. Formed in 2001, this
facility provides customers with a dedicated single path for support,
helping to accelerate time to resolution and keep IT operations running
with minimal disruption.
"EMC and Oracle are focused on helping our customers control
costs and get the most value from their technology infrastructure,"
said Mike O'Neill, EMC's vice president of Technology
Alliances. "We have invested heavily and work closely to integrate
our products and provide customers with the easiest and most effective
ways to deploy them. Combined with our joint service and support
capabilities, we're in a unique position to help customers with
their Oracle Database 11g implementations."
In September, EMC, Oracle and Dell introduced the first solution as
part of the Oracle Optimized Warehouse Initiative, which is designed to
deliver data warehousing solutions based on Oracle Database on hardware
configured and validated for high performance data warehousing. Because
it is pre-built, pre- integrated and tested, Oracle Optimized Warehouse
for Dell and EMC can help reduce the purchase cycle while streamlining
data warehouse deployments.
Judson Althoff, vice president, Worldwide Platform and Distribution
Alliances at Oracle, said, "Oracle and EMC have collaborated for
more than a decade and have provided thousands of mutual customers with
solutions and services that have enabled them to get the most value from
their information. Oracle Database 11g is designed to be effectively
deployed on everything from small blade servers to the biggest SMP
servers and clusters of all sizes and we're working with EMC to
make sure that the integration between the database and EMC storage
systems and software are as seamless as possible."
EMC and Oracle have more than 55,000 mutual customers. EMC is a
Certified Advantage Partner in the Oracle PartnerNetwork and Oracle is
an EMC Global Alliance Partner. The two companies use each other's
technologies to run their respective businesses.
